Giclee print "Disturbed Mud Bath" by Kubus Moller. World renowned artist for wildlife art. Safari Club International Foundation’s 2010 Conservation Artist of the Year. Kobus delights in roaming the bush, taking photos of the wildlife he loves so much. He is well known for his affinity for moving in dangerously close to his subjects to capture the perfect shot. The encounter with this rhino was a memorable one. Kobus recounts, ‘I had heard something big wallowing in a mud pool as I slowly approached over a small ridge. Directly in front of me, no more than thirty yards away, was an old rhino bull, wallowing in the stinking mud. I must have stepped on a twig, because he was on his feet in a flash and starting toward me.’ Kobus froze and, due to the rhino’s nearsightedness, remained undetected and was able to study him for a short while. Suddenly, the rhino wheeled around and charged off, snorting. The painting inspired by that brief confrontation captures the raw intensity of the moment perfectly. Donor Valuation $1,800

Australia proudly boasts some of the world’s finest hunting of red stag, buffalo, goats, fallow, rusa, axis and sambar deer. Enjoy a great adventure donated by Glen and Shawnti Coolahan and Timberline Outfitters - a 10-day Australian Sambar hunt for 1 hunter including trophy fee. Package includes trophy fee and all meals, accommodations, trophy prep, 1x1 guiding, firearms permit fee and airport pick-up and return. You will be hunting an over 1.2million acre concession in South Australia. 10 day Australian Sambar hunt for 1 hunter includes 10 full hunting days, all meals and beverages. Hunt takes place out of the outfitters lodge; in the heart of Australia's finest Sambar country. Trophy care is also included. Additional hunters are welcome at $9900. Non-hunters are welcome at $440 per day. The hunt can be taken on available dates between April and October, 2010 or 2011. All 20 of the South Pacific's big game species are available for upgrade with this hunt.  Not included in the donation are: Firearms Import Permit ($220 per hunter); Trophy Drying and Delivery ($230); Airport Transfers ($660); optional Rifle Hire ($245 per hunt) and Game License ($84). Timberline is one of the most consistent producers of trophy quality, free ranging Sambar stags. We are obsessed with Sambar. Our guides are some of the finest Sambar hunters anywhere! The hunt takes place in Victoria's Great Dividing Range. The terrain and, especially, the quarry are demanding. The hunter should be mentally and physically capable. We have a Sambar policy of no trophy fees and no bag limits. Due to the nature of the hunt, there is usually very little time to discuss the merits of a stags trophy quality. We shoot when we see large bodies with antlers. We typically keep hunting whether the trophy is large enough or not!  The base of the hunt (Mansfield) is a renowned tourism hotspot. It offers the non-hunter a myriad of entertainment options: snow and water skiing, wineries, restaurants, bars, fishing, horse riding, day spas, craft markets and shopping, etc. It is located only 2 1/2 hours from Melbourne's CBD. Mansfield is also where 'The Man From Snowy River' movies were filmed. Much of the Sambar hunting country we frequent can be seen in these movies.  The Sambar is the South Pacific's undisputed number one game animal.  Also; this donation can not be combined with a previously booked Timberline hunt. Nor can it be combined with another South Pacific hunt with another South Pacific outfit. This donation is not transferrable. Donor Valuation $9,900

President’s Message

Welcome to the 2010 Safari Club International Orange County Chapter Annual Fundraiser.  It is through your contributions that SCI-OC continues to be a prominent advocate in protecting our hunting heritage, educating our local community, and protecting our natural resources.  As a 501(c)3 non-profit we strive for excellence in the latter two areas.

For over a decade now we have participated in an annual Youth Safari Day. This fun-filled event that teaches future generations outdoor skills such as kayaking, rock-climbing and nature walks as well as marksmanship in archery and firearms of all types.  Angling instruction, falconers and numerous agencies directly involved in wildlife management have been apart of this event.

We operate a Mobile Sensory Safari that has received national attention through the Safari Times publication of SCI.  This 18-wheeler is filled with donations from around the world that provides a unique hands-on learning experience for everyone.  A program that began as an educational tool for visually impaired and special needs has expanded to include schools all over southern California, our Annual Convention in Reno, Scouting events, Bass Pro Shops Hunting Classic in Rancho Cucamonga, the Wild Game Feed and numerous other locations.

Our ongoing Mojave Desert water projects in conjunction with the State and National Agencies and other local hunting and conservation organizations is showing wildlife flourishing in the parched Mojave once again.

Every year we send local teachers to the American Wilderness Leadership School.  This is the greatest tool at our disposal for impacting the most lives.  Teachers who influence dozens of children each year incorporate the benefits of conservation and the positive role hunters play in ecosystems.  The curriculum was recently changed and now teachers who complete AWLS are certified National Archery in the Schools instructors.  With the realignment of Sables with Education, the Ladies of our sport are the leaders of this critical endeavor.

These are some of the programs you all will be supporting this evening.  It is through your generosity that we are able to continue moving forward on all fronts.  SCI is First for Hunters in all aspects of what we value.  Have a wonderful evening!

Mark Aston
SCI-OC President
